Bright Star Schools’ partnership with the nonprofit organization, Thinking Nation, was featured in the Beverly Press! We’re proud to partner with Thinking Nation to provide our students with a comprehensive civics education.

From the Beverly Press’ “L.A. nonprofit creates a Thinking Nation:”

“Thinking Nation creates a curriculum for grades 6-12 that empowers students to think critically and prepares them to engage with the world around them. [...]

The curriculum aims to “shift the paradigm” of the typical social studies classroom. [...]

'Most people see history as a content, which is something that’s remembered, but we really want people to see it as a discipline, which is something that’s engaged with,' [Executive Director Zachary] Cote added.

The organization developed its curriculum by implementing assessments on historical thinking, writing and analysis in social studies classrooms across five Bright Star Schools – tuition-free charter public schools – in Los Angeles. After input from teachers, Thinking Nation honed an education model that encourages students to ask questions that deepen their understanding of civic engagement.’”
