Family Involvement

We believe that education starts at home and that parent participation is critical to student success. Our parents are actively involved in all aspects of their child's learning. When a student is enrolled at a Bright Star School, each family signs a contract requiring parents to actively participate in the academic life of their child, and to volunteer a minimum of 40 hours per academic year service to the school. To further engage parents in their children's learning, Bright Star Schools provides resources for parents on the curriculum and strategies to support their children at home. Our students also host monthly on-site family dinners that provide families the opportunity to communicate with the school faculty and staff in a supportive atmosphere.

Culture

Our motto is “Be conscientious. Be compassionate. Be creative.” We expect our students to respect themselves and one another, work hard, develop a love of learning, and enjoy being young. Our school creed is emblematic of the values we embrace:

  • There are no shortcuts. All of us will learn. We don’t make excuses. We all get a turn.
  • Before we take action, we always think first.
Can’t make the right choices? Then stay on the porch.
  • If there is a problem, we look for a solution. If there is a better way, we try to find it.
  • If a teammate needs help, we try to give it.
  • If we need help, there’s someone to ask. We just have to know who they are.
  • People can’t see who I am, but they can see what I do.
  • Once they know me then they’ll learn, I am one whose word is true.
  • Mistakes we make once, but don’t make them twice.
  • Learn from your mistakes, and don’t pay a price.
  • Actions speak louder than words. So show don’t tell.
  • A job done too hurriedly is never done well.
  • There is a time and place for everything. Watch and look, you’ll learn how.
  • Our time is the present. Our future is now.
